Dear Parents / Carers,

Well done to Year 2 who achieved 99.5% attendance last week.

Great News about Years 5 & 6

Years 5 and 6 practise their times tables online on TT Rockstars.  The children do this at least four times a week. It marks the children on accuracy and also the speed at which they answer the questions.  There is a league table showing the top 10 schools for speed and accuracy.  Friarswood is in 2nd place just behind a local high school.  Well done to all of our Year 5 and 6 children who continually practise their times tables. It just shows that with a positive attitude as well as practising little and often, it certainly pays off.

June 8th – Parliamentary Elections

Unfortunately, I have received a letter from the borough council asking to use the school again for the parliamentary elections on Thursday June 8th.  I have spoken to several people in the council, emailed and written a letter to complain about this decision.  The borough council will be upholding their decision to use Friarswood as a polling station.  Due to safeguarding, we cannot open the school to our children.  Therefore, the school and Small & Tall will be closed on this day.

If any of you feel strongly about this, please do write to the Electoral Registration Officer, Newcastle Borough Council, Merrial Street, Newcastle, ST5 2AG explaining your concerns and even anger over the school being closed yet again.

Every year there are complaints about the school being used as a polling station.  Unfortunately, unless a number of parents write to express their concerns over the impact on their child’s education as well as childcare issues, the school will continue to be used as a polling station.

I will continue to complain to the council in the hopes that they will find a venue that doesn’t impact on our children and yourselves.

School Uniform

Due to the manufacturers increasing their costs, we have had to increase the cost of our school uniform.  We have kept the increase as low as possible.  Please see the attached sheet for the new costs, effective from now.
